Hood Traded for Toughness

The Kelowna Rockets have traded 18 year old Dylan Hood. Hood heads to Moose Jaw for overage forward Ryley Grantham and a fifth round draft pick in the 2011 Bantam Draft.
I like the deal. Grantham provides the Rockets with some much needed toughness, curtesy of his 15 fighting majors this season. Grantham is a 6th round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2008. Rocket fans may remember him fighting Tysen Dowzak Saturday night in the Warriors 5-2 win.
Grantham will play Friday against Portland. The Hanna Alberta resident just turned 21, with his birthday January 7th.
More thoughts on Grantham and Hood's time in a Rockets uniform later.

I have mixed feelings about this time of the year. Of course it's exciting to see the team build for a playoff run by adding new talent. However, it's also very sad to see the guys lose teammates they've been playing with for multiple years. I for one will miss Hood. He was a good energy player, and I know he was well liked by his teammates. Good luck Hoody.

Oh thank god. FINALLY an enforcer!

This is a solid sign that Backlund is indeed coming to Kelowna.

I had no hate for Hood, and thought he was a good hardworking kid. But you got to give something to get something. And Grantham is far and away one of the meanest players in the WHL.

Looks like Backlund will play for the Flames tonight against the Isles according to news reports in Sweden.

Hopefully for fans in Kelowna it is a quick look while his paperwork gets filled out and not a move for the rest of the season. Will be interesting to see how he fares at the NHL level.

Hood needed to go in the worst way. He was a floater that is only a Junior A player at best. All I have to say is that it is about time they got rid of him and that I am happy we got a tough guy. I am acutally surprised we got that for Hood. We did well.
