Tonight’s Preview: The Kelowna Rockets play their 39th game of the season when they host the Spokane Chiefs. These two teams met back on December 27th with the Chiefs earning a 4-1 win. The seasonal series wraps up March 7th in Spokane. The Rockets open the month of January playing 14 games in 29 days. Of those 14, seven are on the road including a six game road trip from January 6th to January 15th. Following today’s game the Rockets travel to Victoria for back-to-back games this Friday and Saturday night before visiting Portland for two games on January 11th and 13th. Overall, the Rockets have lost three straight games and have just three wins in their last eight home games. The Rockets have scored just two goals in their last three games with losses to Spokane (4-1), Tri City (5-1) and Calgary (2-0).
Who’s Hot: Brett Bulmer has twenty-eight points in twenty-one games this season (14+14=28). Bulmer had a ten game point streak (10+4=14) snapped last Thursday in a 5-1 loss in Tri City. Bulmer has goals in six of his last nine games and has eleven goals in his last twelve games…Shane McColgan has six points (3+3=6) in his last ten games…Carter Rigby has (4+5=9) in his last eleven games…Adam Brown has started in goal in twenty-seven of the first thirty-eight games.
This and That: The Rockets are 1 for 14 on the power play in their last three games…Adam Brown is just six minutes shy (9994) of hitting the 10 thousand minutes played in his WHL career. The only other active goaltender in the WHL with over 10 thousand minutes played is Seattle’s Calvin Pickard…. Shane McColgan turned 19 (Jan 1), Austin Ferguson turns 17 (Jan 11th) and Tyrell Goulbourne turns 18 (Jan 26) later this month…The Rockets haven’t played a game on January 4th since a 6-0 shutout win against the visiting Prince George Cougars on January 4, 2008 when Kristofer Westblom made 22 saves.
