Game notes vs. Cougars

Tonight’s Preview: The Kelowna Rockets are meeting the Prince George Cougars for the 7th of 8 times this season. The two teams conclude the seasonal series tomorrow night at the CN Centre. The Rockets are 6-1-0-0 against Prince George, having out-scored the Cougars 31-17. These two teams met back on January 28th with the Rockets earning a 7-3 win. In three of the six games, the Rockets have scored six or more goals. Tonight’s game is the fourth of seven straight games against teams in the BC Division. After these two games, the Rockets head back home to host the Chilliwack Bruins on Friday February 11th. Overall the Rockets have won seven straight and have scored five or more goals in six of their last seven home games. The Rockets recorded their 30th win of the season Wednesday night against Chilliwack.

  • The Rockets are 8 for 40 on the power play in the seasonal series. The Cougars are 5 for 32 with the extra man. The Cougars have out-shot the Rockets in six of the seven games.

Rockets recent game: Evan Bloodoff scored twice and Tyson Barrie had three assists leading the Rockets to a 6-4 win Wednesday night over the Chilliwack Bruins. Geordie Wudrick scored the game winning goal in the second period. It was Wudrick’s 30th goal of the season. The Bruins had a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes before the Rockets responded with four goals in the second period. Adam Brown earned the win in goal.

Who’s Hot: Zach Franko had his thirteen game point streak end Wednesday night. Franko had 9+9=18 over that period…Shane McColgan has points in 13 of his last 16 games….Mitchell Callahan has 8+13=21 in his last twenty-two games…Brett Bulmer has a ten game point streak (4+11=15). Geordie Wudrick had ten goals in the month of January. In November he had 11. Amazingly, Wudrick had one goal in October.

January Jam: Zach Franko led the Rockets in January with 18 points (9+9=18). Geordie Wudrick (10+5=15) and Brett Bulmer (5+10-=15) each had 15 points. Cody Chikie (4+7=11), Mitchell Callahan (4+7=11) and Shane McColgan (6+5=11) each had 11 points respectively.

This and That: The Rockets are ten games above the .500 mark for the first time this season…..Shane McColgan leads the Rockets in road points with 20. McColgan is followed by Brett Bulmer (19) and Zach Franko (16)…..The Rockets have allowed the fifth fewest goals against in the Western Conference (146). Only Red Deer (125), Spokane (137), Medicine Hat (143) and Tri City (142) have allowed fewer goals against….Since the start of November the Rockets have lost just ten times in their last 36 games. The Rockets lost ten times in their first 14 games to start the season….Jason Siebert is missing his 26th straight games after undergoing surgery on his wrist….Adam Brown moved into second place all-time on the Kelowna Rockets list of games played by a goalie. Brown has played 131 games, two more than Kristofer Westblom. The franchise leader is Kevin Swanson with 167 games played… The Rockets have allowed the fewest goals against on the road in the WHL this season (63)….The Rockets have scored 53 more goals at home than on the road.
