Brown/Bulmer get Rockets in win column

  • Referee Derek Herman wasn't about to be fooled by Prince Albert Raiders goaltender Jamie Tucker twice in one night. After giving Tucker the benefit of the doubt on a third period collision with Rockets forward Colton Sissons, Herman wasn't about to let it happen twice. In overtime, Tucker attempted to play the puck behind his net, and in the process got in the way of an on-coming Rockets fore checker. Tucker tried to sell the play as if he was run over by the Rockets forward, but Herman wasn't about to be fooled by Tucker's acting skills a second time. Tucker was called for interference, giving the home team a power play in overtime. While the Rockets failed to score, the momentum it generated saw Brett Bulmer score moments later in the Rockets 3-2 overtime victory. It was the Rockets first win of the season after dropping four in a row.

  • The Rockets can thank goaltender Adam Brown for playing a large part in the victory. Brown made several spectacular saves late in regulation time, including a point blank stop after a giveaway by defenceman Colton Jobke. Brown followed that save with another that can only be described as 'desperation'. Had Brown given up on the second Raiders chance, the Rockets would still find themselves winless in five games.

  • Brett Bulmer's OT winner was a nice individual effort that saw the 18 year old forward pull the puck back before before putting it high over the glove hand side of Tucker. Bulmer leads the team with three goals in five games.

  • Shane McColgan didn't score Saturday night but he had no less than three glorious chances to beat Tucker. It was just nice to see the 17 year old creating those chances. You can bet the dynamic forward will eventually score on those opportunities.

  • The Rockets power play continues to be a sore point in the first five games of the regular season. For a second straight game the Rockets were awarded nine chances with the extra man, but were unable to convert. It is now 24 straight power plays without a goal. Ouch!

  • Defenceman Tyson Barrie was a late scratch. The Rockets d-man sat this one out after aggravating his hamstring Friday in Vancouver.

  • Rockets d-man Kevin Smith wore a full shield to protect the nose that he got banged up Friday night in a second period fight in Vancouver.

This was time first game this year they looked like a team not a bunch individuals on the ice. Brown finally looked like a starting goaltender and not a joke playing a solid game between the pipes. The power play units need the get on the ball. Going 0/18 on the power play in last two games that is just not cutting it. And the older players need to start showing they’re on the team for a reason. but all in all a really great game

Pretty exciting game to watch!! Rockets need to work on the PP, that's for sure, but why do they insist on playing Barrie when he's not fully healed, leave him out till he's 100%, he'll be of more value to us later on than now!! If they want to play him that bad it's going to be like this all season, one game in, one game out!!

Adam Brown was very solid in a 1-0 loss vs. the Americans. To make the comment about Adam Brown as a "joke", gives no credibility to your comments. Well done last night Adam, several game saving stops.

No offense Gord but your are the last person to talk credibilty. Not blaming you but we know you can't and won't say anything negative about the team so what you say usually doesn't mean a whole bunch. Color guys get canned all the time when they speak out and it's evident in Kelowna. Brown makes big saves but it doesn't excuse the faults he has.

I'm sorry, did Ryan just take a shot at Gord's Credibility? Talk about Pot calling the kettle black.

Gord McGarva i never saw the tricity game so i could tell you how he looked like in that game. my coment is from the games i have watched being live or on the web and from what i have seen this was the first game he looked like a starting goaltender. You should really not judge others when you never make any negitve coments even if they are called for.
