- It`s another windy day in Rimouski as the Memorial Cup officially begins tonight with the Rockets facing the Oceanic. The good news is the sun is shining, but the wind makes me feel like I`m back in my hometown of Swift Current. If you want to keep your hair in place, strong hold hair spray is a requirement.
- The shuttle service here is amazing. A car is always available any time we need a ride to the arena from our hotel, which is about a 25 minute walk. The same is true when we step outside of the Colisee as a car is waiting to shuttle you back to the hotel. Renting a car isn`t needed unless you are interested in doing some touring on your own.
- The people of Rimouski are a friendly bunch. It has been nothing but a positive experience when interacting with volunteers of the event. While we have been here just three short days, we feel extremely welcome. People are bending over backwards to make sure things are going smoothly for us.
- I had a chance to set up my radio gear in preparation for tonight`s game. My sight line is at the blue-line looking directly towards the Rimouski bench. That radio location is also being shared by the Windsor broadcasters and a french broadcast crew. The Oceanic radio broadcast booth is directly across the ice.
- The Rockets took part in a pre-game skate in advance of tonight`s game. The boys looked sharper on the ice then they did in Thursday`s workout when the ice was chopped up. The ice conditions were less than ideal because the Rockets were the third team on the ice that day.
- Bring a coat. If you are thinking of watching any games at the Memorial Cup, a jacket is required inside the building. The on-ice crew have made sure that the temperature inside the building is cold enough so that the ice conditions won`t be compromised. It`s down right chilly in there. It feels like the old Memorial Arena in Cranbrook in December.
- The city of Rimouski is excited about this event. Banners, signs and Memorial Cup logo`s are all over town. Even if you are not a hockey fan you would get the general impression that this event is a big deal.
- In made a quick stop in one of the local super markets this morning and the language barrier is an issue. The only saving grace for me is everything is in Canadian funds, so dealing with different denominations isn`t a struggle when making a transaction. I was told about 20 percent of the population in Rimouski speak English.
- I conducted an interview with Sportsnets Peter Loubardias for an intermission during tonight's game. Loubardias is one of my favourites and I could talk shop with him for hours. He`s a real pro, yet isn`t afraid to let down his guard and get real with you. He`s a quality guy!
- Richard Doerksen, the VP of Hockey for the WHL will be my second intermission guest tonight. Doerksen is appearing in his 30th Memorial Cup. The only one he`s missed was in 1985 with the birth of his son.
- The low glass at the Colisee could be an factor. The side glass is 2 feet lower than at Prospera Place, and the end glass is also shorter than what is a requirement in the WHL. So the Rockets defenceman will have to be extra careful when clearing the puck off the glass into the neutral zone.

you've seen me....i would need a hat!
hope you are havin fun there.
all of kelowna is behind you and the team!
just think if the guys can pull this off.....benn, meyers will have gold medals and memorial cup rings in the same year!....not an easy thing to do.....lindross did it....but not even sidnety crosby pulled that off.
hey....i cant seem to find out what the odds makers say about the tourney????...do you have that info?
is windsor still the all out fave?....or have they (the odds makers)woken up and are taking a serious look at us for more than a seconp place finish in the event?
hi regan,
any chance listen or watch the games live from outside canada?
Regan, I know I've made my comments, and there's been alot of bs. But, good luck to the Rockets tonight. The Oceanic have been sittin around on their asses the past 3 weeks, while the Rockets just went through 4 wars. The inferior Q and O, will once again know, and realize what the WHL is all about. 6-2 Rockets tonight.
Not so bad for me as a Blazer fan, losing to a potential Memorial Cup champion that's for sure. Especially since I thought they played pretty well against them in the 1st round.
Good luck guys.
Regan - I have to thank you for creating this great site. I cheered for the Hitmen in the WHL final, but even though they lost I learned a lot about the Kelowna Rockets and will follow them very closely.
Before anybody calls me a bandwagoner, I will call myself that first! Hope that is out of the way ;-)
I am a New York Rangers fan and have a special interest in Tysen Dowzak, but I see what a great T-E-A-M Kelowna is. I saw that in Calgary.
Thanks again for the insight you provide here.

sucked to see guggs let one in after responding to rimouski really pick up their play and be shut down repeatedly, but all in all a fantastic game, what more can i say? backlund to duval,if i don't see that on sportscentre's highlight of the night i'm going to write them a letter of what i think of their programming, that should deffinetly be it.
also,i liked how the shaw boys are using "guggenbergler",such a sick name. all in all,i think the higher-tests are yet to come and we'll see how the boys respond to some heavy-weight opponents. if they can come out that strong in the first period of more games and really take control of it then we've got a huge chance, that first period was money, especially the first 8 minutes or so.
and LIONS if you go to the memorial cup homepage you can click on a link, telus is streaming the game live on the web,you can watch it there as long as you have internet access (assuming you do seeing as you're on here.)
playing rimouski on the first game might have been a bit of a freebe they did sound ( i was listening on the radio for the first 2 periods) like a team that had not played for 23 days the 2 upcoming games will really tell the story can t wait for monday night we have set up a satellite feed in out treeplanting camp so most of our kelowna crew will be cheering for the other kelowna crew you guys make us proud just go out there have fun and of course win ,,,,,
Regan, if THAT bulding can have a replay screen, then there is ABSOLUTLEY ZERO reason we don't get one in the off season
hey jared i completely agree with ya lets put some pressure on the decision makers......
That Windsor - Drummondville game looked like ballet (no body contact). I don't think either one of them has a chance against the Rockets. Clearly, Kelowna, Vancouver, Calgary or Saskatoon would do very well against the OHL and QMJHL this year.
Looks like 4 in a row for the WHL.
...hell, if THAT arena can have a centre-ice scoreboard, there's no reason why the Regina Brandt Centre can't have one too!
We're a HAVE province now!
