The Kelowna Rockets have traditionally hired from within when it comes to looking for a head coach. They like to groom their assistants to eventually move into the top spot when the vacancy becomes available. The organization got it right Wednesday when they agreed to a contract extension with assistant coach Dan Lambert. Lambert will be an excellent head coach when Ryan Huska eventually moves on to pro, but for now they have a head coach in waiting in Lambert, much like Huska was under Jeff Truitt. Truitt also waited for his time to move into the drivers seat after being an assistant to Marc Habscheid.
The formula seems to work, so why change now?
