Rockets veterans released

The Kelowna Rockets announced this afternoon that 19 year-old Codey Ito and 18 year-old Sean Aschim have been released.

Ito made the team as an 18 year-old rookie last season on a tryout while Aschim was acquired last season from the Prince Albert Raiders for a 6th round bantam pick.

Both players became expendable with the emergence of 19 year-old forward Andreas Stene and 17 year-old rookies Colton Sissons and Zach Franko.

The Rockets also re-assigned Tyrell Goulbourne back to midget in Edmonton.

So minus Ito, Aschim and Goulbourne, it looks like the Rockets still have 27 players. When is the deadline to get down to 23?

I think the Rockets want to start the season with 24 players. Their is no deadline to get to 23 that I am aware of. If they wanted to have 30 guys around all season they could.

I think we will be in need of some muscle. Callahan isn't a heavyweight and I don't see Matheson making it to the end of Oct, in fact I am surprised he wasn't released. With Wall, Wudrick and Bloodoff I thought he would be gone.

All the best for Codey Ito and Sean Aschim in their future hockey endeavors.

I hope they find themselves playing hockey soon.

Codey and Sean are quality young men that got caught in the numbers game with one of the top teams in the WHL.

Colton Jobke just got an NHL contract with Minnesota. He's still expected to be returned to Kelowna, thankfully.
