The Kelowna Rockets add some size with the acquisition of 19 year-old forward Tyler Matheson from the Saskatoon Blades. The Rockets give up a 7th round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. Matheson is a 6'2, 230 pound forward who dressed in three games with the Blades this season. Matheson was listed by the Blades in 2008. Matheson has played the last two seasons with the BCHL's Victoria Grizzlies.
Matheson turned down a chance to attend the Rockets training camp last summer, instead choosing to stay in his hometown of Victoria as the Grizzlies were hosting the Royal Bank Cup. It's interesting to note that Matheson attended the Vancouver Canucks prospects camp last fall. My understanding is he can play both d and forward.

what's the point
he a fighter? 6'2 230
He led the Grizzlies in pims last season. I don't get the idea he is one demensional though. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Tyler, is a raw talent, but, all the tools are there. He's shown in the past he can score, hit, drop the gloves and is a good leader in the dressing room.
I'm sure Huska and company can bring out a solid WHL player in Matheson.
Good luck Tyler, and what a great organization to end up in.
Thanks for the post Grizzer. The readers of this blog appreciate your thoughts...I know I do on a player I know very little about.
anything on myers, regan
He will get a few games with the Sabres in the regular season. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays in all 9 before they official state that he's staying in Buffalo. I am sure Myers is not coming back.
After seeing Matheson play a handful of games I thought he is a talented plyer,he was great in the pre season for the Blades,he did fight a couple of times, and he hits as well just like someone else mentioned.
I was surprized when I saw that he was traded because Molleken and the Blades brass usually like tough guys like Matheson but I think it was again a numbers game for certain players.....
The trade of Jeremy Boyer to the Blades made the numbers even larger.... Good pick up for the Rockets if he reports and stays on the team.
I will be able to see Matheson play the Blades the Rockets visit the CUC on December 16th....So hopefully Ryan Huska dresses Tyler Matheson.
Good to get another scrapper on board. Gogol and Callahan, although willing, cannot always be counted on to take down the six foot five and six foot six guys...
What do we need a fighter for?? New rules have all but prevented that from happening!! Were going to see alot more dirty hits this season as witnessed in the Loops game the other night, hurts too much now to drop the gloves so might as well run your opponents head into the boards, bonehead decision by the league!!
I do not understand the new rules, for sure....When a Euro faceplants a tough guy into the boards, like witnessed in Kamloops, and nothing happens, are serious neck injuries far behind? Definitely a decision by the WHL Board that doesn't sit well with a lot of people....
