McCoy left the Pats after Christmas, telling the team he wanted to pursue his education.
McCoy was picked up by the Pats in a deal with Red Deer at the midway point of last season.
It was suggested at the time that McCoy, who is from Edmonton, would be the Pats second line centre at the start of the season but it never panned out. Instead he played a third line checking role until leaving the team at the Christmas break.
McCoy is a bigger body at 6'2 and a shade over 200 pounds.
McCoy is a 5th round pick of the Rebels in 2009.
A decent prospect. He was a second team all-star at the Mac's Midget tourney in 2010-2011 and was a 1st Team All-Star that same season in the Alberta Midget Hockey League.
The Pats acquired McCoy from the Red Deer Rebels midway through last
season in the Dominik Volek deal. He was coveted by the Pats for his
size and face-off ability, but those elements alone weren’t enough for
him to find a significant role on this year’s team.
McCoy played 158 games over parts of three WHL seasons, recording 16 goals, 36 points and 171 penalty minutes. His departure could open the door for fellow 19-year-old forward Patrick D’Amico to remain with the team for the rest of the season.

Veteran forward Marc McCoy has left the Regina Pats, informing the team that he plans to begin his post-secondary education.
McCoy apparently told the Pats’ brass after the Christmas break that he wanted a little extra time to contemplate his future. The 19-year-old Edmonton native – a healthy scratch for the past three games – subsequently decided to bring his WHL career to a close.
McCoy auditioned briefly as the Pats’ No. 2 centre this season, but the role didn’t stick. He was relegated primarily to a third-line/checking role while recording two goals and five assists in 36 games.

"McCoy left the Pats after Christmas, telling the team he wanted to pursue his education." So is this guy even going to be playing for the rockets?
Bruce and Lorne don't make trades at deadline day if they guy isn't going to report....
